The QAYN’s 16 Days of Activism against violence is an initiative that seeks to bring about visibility regarding gender-base violence perpetrated against lesbians, bisexual and queer women, as well as women who have sex with women (LBQWSW) in order to push for the acknowledgement of this violence as being an integral part of the violence perpetrated against all women. Conducted under the theme 16 Voices, 16 Experiences: Queer women from West Africa and Cameroon talk about violence, this campaign aims at sharing personal examples of women who have been victims of violence due to their sexual orientation and their gender identity.
From November 24th to December 10th, QAYN will publish daily audio testimonies from lesbians, bisexual and queer women from Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Senegal or Togo. These women will talk about their experience with violence as it relates to their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
Through this first campaign, QAYN aims at making visible the violence perpetrated against LBQWSW populations in order to bring about a collective commitment to protect the rights of all women, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity.
